Respected Regulatory, Compliance and Specialty Lines Claims Counsel
CHICAGO, IL - May 21, 2010 - Carrie E. Cope, widely regarded as an authority on insurance and regulatory law, is bringing her Regulatory and Compliance and Specialty Lines Claims practices (with an emphasis on D&O liability) to Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, P.C. Known by industry insiders for her expert commentary on the D&O "Duty to Defend" debate with the New York Insurance Department, Carrie's new role as a shareholder with the firm will enable her to continue building her practice areas while adding a unique set of legal skills to Schuyler Roche & Crisham's insurance practice. Joining her in the move to Schuyler Roche are associate Danielle Harrison and filing director Audrey Smith.
"Carrie is a terrific lawyer and a great person," said Schuyler Roche president, James L. Komie. "Her regulatory practice complements our existing insurance practice by adding her outstanding legal skills and capabilities to the mix. Plus, it's obvious her clients value her highly. Carrie and her team are a great addition to our firm."
Cope's regulatory practice is international in scope, advising clients on a wide variety of regulatory and compliance issues in the United States and foreign jurisdictions. Her clientele includes insurers, agents, brokers, reinsurers, reinsurance intermediaries, alternative risk insurance groups and third party administrators. She also has extensive legal experience in product development and policy and endorsement drafting for both commercial and personal line insurance policies.
A separate but related practice area developed and led by Cope is in specialty lines claims monitoring and coverage consulting services to the insurance industry, concentrating in directors' and officers' liability, professional liability and employment practices' liability.
Most notable among Cope's many published works, in addition to her pivotal commentary on the D&O Duty to Defend issue, are her Regulation of Policy Forms in the New Appleman on Insurance Law (LexisNexis 2009) and a book she co-authored in 2008 with attorney Joseph Monteleone, entitled Directors' and Officers' Liability: Exposures, Risk Management and Insurance Coverage. Published by National Underwriter, the book focuses on the D&O needs of public, private and not-for-profit corporations, the nature of the exposure, common D&O claims, risk management and insurance coverage.
