SRC's May 1, 2012 Seminar: Risk Management and Business Planning for Design and Construction Professionals

On May 1, 2012, Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, P.C. hosted a risk management seminar for design and construction professionals at McDonald's Hamburger University in Oak Brook, Illinois. Approximately 200 architects, engineers and other design and construction professionals attended the half-day event. Ryan Johnson, a senior associate at Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, spoke about the first steps when any design professional is served with a subpoena or lawsuit. Laurie A. Martin Montplaisir, a partner at Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, discussed corporate governance and contract formation. John P. O'Malley, shareholder at Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, Melissa Roberts, AIA, Vice President, Euclid Insurance Agencies, and Ira Sussman, Assistant Vice President of Claims at ELI, had a roundtable discussion regarding professional liability insurance, including retention of counsel and defense of claims. Next, Douglas A. Hanson, a member of the Board of Directors of Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, addressed estate planning for the privately-held business. Clare J. Quish, a partner at Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, explained what to do upon receipt of a complaint from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Finally, Michael Braun, a shareholder at Schuyler, Roche & Crisham, spoke about recent developments in employment law.

The seminar was organized by Jeffrey T. Kubes, shareholder and member of the Board of Directors, and moderated by Thomas M. Crisham, President and member of the Board of Directors.

The seminar was approved by the AIA and ALA for 3.25 Learning Units for Architects. Engineers were able to self-certify for 3.25 Professional Development Hours pursuant to ASCE and SEAOI guidelines.
